How Are CPF Contributions Calculated for 2026

How Are CPF Contributions Calculated for 2026

From 1 January 2026, CPF contributions changed for a large chunk of Singapore’s workforce. Here’s the quick version before you get into the detail:

What changed: The Ordinary Wage ceiling rose from S$7,400 to S$8,000, and contribution rates for employees above 55 to 65 went up by 1.5 percentage points.

Who is affected: Senior employees aged above 55 to 65, higher-wage earners now paying CPF on a larger portion of salary, and the employers running payroll for both.

How to calculate: Identify your age band, your CPF status (Citizen or SPR year), and your CPF-applicable wage, then apply the matching employee and employer rates.

Where the current rates apply: Singapore Citizens and SPRs from their third year of PR status, earning above S$750 a month.

What Changed in CPF Contributions in 2026?

Two things changed on 1 January 2026. First, the CPF Ordinary Wage ceiling increased from S$7,400 to S$8,000 a month, the final step of a phased rise that began back in 2023.

Second, contribution rates for employees above 55 to 65 increased by 1.5 percentage points, split as a 0.5 percentage point rise from employers and a 1 percentage point rise from employees.

The extra amount is channelled straight into the Retirement Account, up to the Full Retirement Sum, to help senior workers build a stronger retirement nest egg.

Who Needs to Check a Different CPF Rate?

Not every employee follows the same table. Singapore Citizens and SPRs from their third year onward use the standard rates.

First-year PRs contribute at graduated rates, around 9% combined, while second-year PRs move up to roughly 23% combined, unless the employer and employee jointly opt for full rates from year one.

Wages between S$500 and S$750 attract phased-in rates rather than the full percentage. Age matters too, since the rate steps down at 55, 60, 65, and again at 70.

How to Calculate CPF Contributions in 2026

Working out your 2026 CPF contribution comes down to five steps:

  1. Identify your age as of the last day of the wage month, since CPF age bands change at 55, 60, 65, and 70.
  2. Determine your applicable status: Singapore Citizen, or SPR in the first, second, or third-plus year, since rates differ by status.
  3. Determine your CPF-applicable wages by separating Ordinary Wages from Additional Wages and checking each against its own ceiling.
  4. Apply the correct employee and employer rates for your age band and status.
  5. Calculate total contribution: Add the employee and employer shares together to get the total CPF contribution calculation due for the month.

2025 vs 2026 CPF Contribution Rates

The biggest shift is for employees above 55 to 65. For those above 55 to 60, the combined rate rose from 32.5% to 34% (employer 15.5% to 16%, employee 17% to 18%). For those above 60 to 65, it rose from 23.5% to 25% (employer 12% to 12.5%, employee 11.5% to 12.5%).

Rates for employees 55 and below, and those above 65, are unchanged. The Ordinary Wage ceiling also moved from S$7,400 to S$8,000; the annual ceiling stays at S$102,000.

How Are CPF Contributions Allocated in 2026?

CPF contributions are still split across the Ordinary Account, Special or Retirement Account, and MediSave Account, with the exact split depending on age. The 2026 change affects members above 55 to 65 specifically: their entire rate increase is directed into the Retirement Account, up to the Full Retirement Sum, instead of the Ordinary Account.

Once a member has already set aside the Full Retirement Sum, any additional contribution from the rate increase goes to the Ordinary Account instead.

How Much CPF Will Be Deducted From Your Salary?

Say you’re 45 and earn S$6,000 a month. At the 55-and-below employee rate of 20%, your CPF deduction is S$1,200, and your employer contributes a further S$1,020 (17%). Now say you’re 58 earning the same S$6,000.

Your deduction becomes S$1,080 (18%), and your employer pays S$960 (16%). The exact figure depends on your age band, wage, and CPF status, so it’s worth running your numbers through a calculator instead of estimating by hand.

2026 CPF Calculation: Things to Check

Before you finalise a CPF figure, run through this quick checklist:

  • Correct age band as of the wage month (the cut-offs are 55, 60, 65, and 70)
  • Correct CPF status (Singapore Citizen, or SPR year 1, 2, or 3-plus)
  • Correct CPF-applicable wage, with Ordinary and Additional Wages separated
  • Correct rate applied for that age band and status
  • Correct wage ceiling used: S$8,000 monthly Ordinary Wage ceiling, S$102,000 annual ceiling
  • Correct contribution period, since CPF is due by the 14th of the following month
